Overview
Ballymoney Golf Club was established in 1993 by Ron Breen and his family, and its par-71 parkland course has matured into a real test for golfers of all levels. It sits in the picturesque countryside at Ballymoney in County Wexford, with Tara Hill dominating the view.
From the white tees the course measures 6,337 yards, with mature trees, smooth greens and plenty of water. The second has a two-tier green with out of bounds long, the sixth is a par 5 where water catches more than its share of second shots, and the 11th, a long dogleg left, is the hardest hole on the card.
The finish is memorable. The 16th is a picturesque hole with Tara Hill as the backdrop, the 17th has a tree 35 yards short of a dramatically sloped green, and the closing hole is a strong par 3 that demands full commitment.
The club prides itself on affordable golf. A full seven-day membership costs €600 a year with no entrance fee, and in 2013 Ballymoney won the first Weatherglaze Trophy between four local clubs, then defended it every year through 2017.
