Overview
Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands Golf Club was established in 1914 and sits between its two namesake villages on the south side of Milton Keynes, right on the border of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It is a mature 18-hole course that blends heathland and parkland, and it uses the naturally undulating ground to give golfers of every standard a real challenge.
The club manages the course in line with R&A agronomy guidance, aiming for dry, firm, well-paced greens all year round. Water, fertiliser and chemical use are kept low and native grasses are encouraged, with the stated goal of keeping a traditional heathland feel for future generations. Golfers are asked to help: repair your own pitch mark plus one more on every green, and under the club’s carry-it-forward policy, pick up any loose divot you find and drop it into the next divot mark.
From the White tees the course measures 5,944 yards to a par of 70, and from the Yellow tees 5,650 yards. It is short on paper, but the opening hole is a good example of its character: only 293 yards, yet narrow enough that the club advises keeping your tee shot to the right side of the fairway. The 9th, at 425 yards from the Whites, is stroke index 1.
A modern clubhouse with curved lines that echo the landscape looks out over the course. The bar, lounge and restaurant are on the first floor, with a wrap-around balcony for the views, and the club also hosts societies, corporate days and private functions.

Facilities
Good to know
Visitors are welcome on weekdays from 1 pm, between March and October, subject to availability. The club cannot take visitor bookings at weekends or on bank holidays.
Visitor tee times open on a rolling five-day basis and must be paid for when you book. Societies and groups book with a form returned to the club office. Official page ↗
The club calls its dress code fairly relaxed, but asks you to change out of wet or dirty clothes and shoes before going upstairs to the bar, where only spikeless golf shoes are allowed.
The course follows the natural rise and fall of the land, and public footpaths and byways cross it, so watch for signs and give walkers and vehicles priority. The 9th finishes back by the clubhouse.
The club sits on West Hill between the villages of Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands, on the south side of Milton Keynes. If the car park is full, extra parking is available at the nearby recreation ground.
History & highlights
The club dates from 1914. It has hosted golfers in the area for more than a century, and today it runs a programme of open competitions, including mixed, senior and ladies’ events, along with a Ladies Academy for beginners and returning golfers led by its PGA professionals.
A 293-yard par 4 from the Whites. Accuracy matters more than length here: the club’s advice is to favour the right-hand side off the tee.
A 425-yard par 4 from the Whites and stroke index 1, finishing back at the clubhouse before the back nine.
At 218 yards from the White tees, this is the longest of the short holes and a stern test of a long iron or wood.
Tips for first-timers
- Book early: visitor tee times are released only five days ahead and must be paid at booking.
- The clubhouse is cashless apart from the pro shop, so bring a card.
- Bring your own towel and practice balls; the club provides neither.
- Use the halfway house after the 9th for hot or cold drinks and a snack before the back nine.
- In winter, follow the 90-degree rule on fairways and check the winter bunker policy, which runs from November to March.
Map & location
The club is at West Hill, Aspley Guise, MK17 8DX. Woburn Golf Club is about 3 km away and Bow Brickhill Heath is close by, so this corner of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire works well for a golf break around Milton Keynes.
