Overview

Golf de Biarritz le Phare dates from 1888, giving it a long history. It is in Biarritz itself, on Avenue Edith Cavell, and OpenStreetMap lists the course as par 69. It is run by the Société des Golfs de Biarritz, with an active sporting association that runs a busy calendar of club competitions, including the Classic Mid-Amateurs, the Biarritz Cup and the Médailles du Phare.

Visitors are welcome as long as they hold a licence and a handicap index of 36 or better. The green fee depends on the season, and a twilight rate starting three hours before sunset makes a late round much cheaper. Golfers who plan several rounds can buy a book of five green fees. The practice area sits right beside the course, and the club also has teaching professionals and a golf school. The practice area is closed to the public every Wednesday for the golf school.

The clubhouse restaurant is run by Philippe Hypolite and Valérie. Philippe worked in several starred restaurants in the region, including the Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz. He then cooked in Paris at the Royal Monceau-Raffles and La Tour d'Argent, and in Courchevel at Le Chabichou. He cooked at Le Phare for 4 years, ran La Cucaracha in Bidart for 20 years, and then came back to run the clubhouse. The pro shop at reception sells clothing, shoes, golf accessories and club-logo souvenirs, and there are lockers, a caddie master and a meeting room.
