Overview
Golfový klub Agama is a small, welcoming club at Koš, next to Prievidza in central Slovakia. It has a 9-hole course, par 31 according to OpenStreetMap, along with a driving range. The club is honest about its size: it doesn't claim to be the best or most beautiful course in the world. It says the land became more attractive thanks to old mining activity, and it promises a great crowd of people and a lively clubhouse atmosphere. It calls itself one of the most active golf clubs in Slovakia.
Agama is built around getting people into the game. Newcomers can pick a starter package: discover golf from a golf cart, discover golf from the saddle of a horse, or take the beginner's starter pack. You can also just turn up, rent clubs at the Golf bar and work on your swing on the range. The Golf bar also has a small shop selling gloves and club-branded shirts.
The Green Card golf school usually takes about 12 hours with a coach and covers long and short shots, the rules and etiquette. After a practical and theory exam of about three hours, you get a certificate and a starting handicap of 54. Register with the club and it will manage your handicap and your registration with the Slovak Golf Association. During the week the club runs 9-hole handicap competitions, which take about 2 hours, and at weekends 18-hole events of around 4 hours.
Golf is not the only game here. The site also offers footgolf, a mix of football and golf, as well as disc golf, horse riding and a campsite. On Tuesdays at 17:00 there is a 'Happy Hour' group training session with a coach, and group training for children runs every Sunday.
