Overview

Canyon Gate Country Club is a private golf and country club in the west of Las Vegas, only minutes from the Strip, yet tucked away with open desert and mountain views. Its 18-hole championship course was designed by Ted Robinson and spreads across 160 acres of fairways, with calm lagoons woven into the native Nevada landscape. The club recently finished a renovation it describes as multimillion-dollar, aimed at improving the member experience.

The par-72 course is built to suit everyone from newcomers to strong players. Water is the recurring theme: it lines the right side of the opening par 5, sits in front of the par-3 6th, guards the 7th green and comes into play off the tee on the 9th and 13th. The back nine adds an uphill par 4 at the 11th, the long 12th, which the club calls the longest par 3 on the course, and fairway bunkers on the 15th and 16th that reward a carry.

Away from golf there are four individually lit tennis and pickleball courts, a fitness centre with classes and personal training, a pool and bocce. The clubhouse has a formal main dining room and casual poolside meals, with weekly specials such as a Wednesday prime rib night and live music in the Grill on Fridays. Members also get access to more than 300 other Invited clubs and offers at more than 1,000 hotels, resorts and venues.

History & highlights

Hole 1: opening par 5

545 yards from the Gold tees. You can open the shoulders off the tee, but water down the right punishes a push.

Hole 6: par 3 over water

196 yards from the Gold tees, all carry over water. Short is the one miss you cannot afford.

Hole 12: longest par 3

243 yards from the Gold tees and 213 from the Blue, making it the longest one-shotter on the course.

Hole 17: two-tier green

A long par 3 with bunkers front and back and a ridge through the middle of the green, so finishing on the right tier is everything.
