Overview
Leirdalsvöllur, or simply Leirdalur, is the 18-hole championship course of Golfklúbbur Kópavogs og Garðabæjar (GKG). It lies between the two towns that gave the club its name, about 10 minutes from central Reykjavík. The routing runs from Vetrarmýri in Garðabær up into the Leirdalur valley in Kópavogur and back again.
From the back tees the course measures 6,000 metres to a par of 71. The club calls it one of the most varied courses in Iceland and a test for golfers of every level. GKG's second course, the 9-hole Mýrin, is better for a quick nine but still brings lakes and bunkers into play, so the club offers 27 holes in all.
The club also has what it describes as the world's largest indoor Trackman facility, with 16 simulators and two big putting and chipping areas, so members and guests can keep playing famous courses virtually through the long winter. GKG holds GEO Foundation certification for sustainable golf, and it has meeting rooms for 2 to 30 people.
GKG is known for one of Iceland's strongest junior and elite programmes, and for a membership waiting list for adults that the club puts at three to four years. Visitors can still play on a green fee.

History & highlights
GKG was formed on 24 March 1994 by merging Golfklúbbur Garðabæjar (founded 1986) and Golfklúbbur Kópavogs (founded 1990), with both towns agreeing to fund a 27-hole facility.
Jan Sederholm designed the original 18-hole layout at Vífilsstaðir. The first nine new holes opened on 13 July 1996, and the full course was finished in 2002.
The expansion into Leirdalur in Kópavogur was designed by club member Andrés I. Guðmundsson in the style of Sederholm's holes. It was handed over in 2006 and fully opened in spring 2007, when the old course was split into today's par-71 18-hole layout and the par-34 Mýrin nine.
