Overview
The Tampines Course is one of two 18-hole layouts at Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC), a private club on Singapore’s East Coast built on reclaimed land beside Changi Airport. It first opened for play in 1988, was redeveloped by Phil Jacobs Design in 2017, and reopened officially on 23 February 2019 as a par-72 championship course.
From the back tees it stretches to 6,687 metres, with three further tee sets at 6,423, 6,008 and 5,353 metres. The redesign gave it rolling hills, large and often strongly contoured greens, lakes on many holes and a canal crossing on the 5th, so it suits a wide range of players while still testing the best. Crosswinds and the prevailing breeze add to the challenge on exposed holes.
The course has quickly become one of Singapore’s main tournament venues. It hosted the International Series Singapore for a third straight time in 2023, the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open in 2024 after a successful 2022 edition, and the World Amateur Team Championships in 2025. Both TMCC courses hold GEO Certified status for sustainable golf.
Practice is centred at the Tampines clubhouse: a 28-bay driving range with a wide fairway, dedicated grass turf bays, a pro shop and a club fitting and repair centre. The clubhouse roof carries 1,172 solar panels. Across the club, members also have a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and several restaurants.

History & highlights
The idea for TMCC came from a helicopter flight over the new Changi Airport site, when then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew suggested turning the adjacent reclaimed land into golf. The club opened in 1984 with the Garden Course, and work on a second course, Tampines, began that same year. TMCC has since hosted the Singapore Open, the Johnnie Walker Classic, the Tiger Skins, the Lexus Cup and the HSBC Women’s Champions.
The longest par 3 on the course at 232 m from the back, with the green angled at 45 degrees to the line of play and a front-left bunker hiding back-left pins.
A 581 m par 5 where you must carry a canal between the two landing areas, with bunkers on both sides of the tee shot and a small green.
The 164-yard signature hole, where Jinichiro Kozuma made a hole-in-one during the 2023 International Series Singapore.
- International Series Singapore, 2023 (third consecutive staging)
- Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open, 2022 and 7–10 March 2024
- World Amateur Team Championships, 2025
Tips for first-timers
- On the 1st, a small lake sits right of the long green; the safe play is to the front.
- On the 3rd, the left greenside bunker looks like it is on the green’s edge but is actually 15 m short.
- The 9th is the shortest par 4 and drivable for long hitters, but a miss leaves a tricky second to a two-tier green.
- On the 10th the lake runs all the way down the left; longer hitters can reach in two downwind.
- Guests: practice on the range is free on the day you play either course, but your member must sign you in first.
